An emoticon is a kind of simple image formed with letter characters. To address this need, text art emerged, a technique of creating images where a picture or word is formed from drawn or printed symbols in a composition. In text-based communication, the representation of images has not always been possible for technical reasons. Images created with letter characters enhance the expressiveness of text-based presentations, such as emails or text messages.
